A carnivore does not get its energy from the sun directly. It is a secondary or tertiary consumer as part of a food chain. For example, plants get their energy from the sun, which makes them grow. These are called producers. Something then eats that plant (if edible) and that is what is known as the primary consumer, like mice eating corn. A carnivore eats animals lower on the food chains, usually the primary or secondary producers. For example, a cat would eat the mouse that ate the corn and then be a secondary consumer. A food chain is a transfer of energy from one organism to another by one eating another organism.

The caterpillar eats plants, and plants directly use the sun's energy to make their own food. The process the plant uses is called photosynthesis, and the caterpillar eats "sunlight" when it eats the plant, when looked at in this way.

All animals get energy from the sun by eating plants and using the food the plants make from the Sun's energy .
Plants get their energy directly from the Sun. Animals eat plants (or other animals), and thus get their energy indirectly from the Sun. Without the Sun, they wouldn't have anything to eat.

It depends. When animals get produced, they are soon to be consumed by another bigger and stronger animal, but energy pyramids always start off by getting their energy from the sun.

Where does the energy that drives chemical reactions and life processes come from?

technically, from the sun. photoautotrphs bind solar energy during photosynthesis into organic compounds, which are then consumed by fitofags, which are then consumed by predators...

Which level of a food pyramid contains the least amount of the original energy provided by the sun?

A) Producers B) Herbivores C) Carnivores D) Top predators

Do consumers get energy from the sun?

Technically yes because if the sun is transferred to the producer then a consumer comes and eats it then the energy is inside them. Another pathway is the sun heating up the surface and contributing to wind which is converted to electricity using wind turbine.
