Remove the starter assembly from the engine compartment. To do this you disconect the neg battery cable.Remove air intake duct and the air cleaner housing assembly from the engine compartment. Disconnect the battery cable and the solenoid terminal from the starter solenoid and remove the mounting bolts. - Remove the electrical connector from the solenoid lower terminal. Remove the solenoid mounting screws and separated the solenoid from the starter body. Installation is the reverse. This answer is from my Haynes manual. Hope it helps

There are only two bolts that hold the starter in place. Then there is a nut on the solenoid that must be removed to disconnect the main power lead. Finally, there is a smaller electrical wire that must also be disconnected from the solenoid.

Always disconnect the negative lead on the battery before attempting any repairs on a starter (or alternator, etc.).

Also: On most 1992-1997 Ford products, the small electrical wire that goes to the solenoid is a push-on, pull-off connection, called a spade connection. This is a source of constant problems for Ford products because the connection is easily corroded. Ford came out with a conversion kit to change the spade connection to an eyelet/post connection. Reputable starter rebuilders have also converted to this newer connection.

Do NOT buy a starter or a starter solenoid that uses the space connection.
