The Goblins and Wargs trap Bilbo, Gandalf, and the Dwarves by besieging the mountain and trapping them.

When Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves were trapped in the tree tops by the goblins and wargs, the great eagles arrived and carried them away to safety.

The eagles come and snatch them from the trees and take them off to their aeries.

When Bilbo, the dwarves, and Gandalf were trapped up in fir trees with wargs (evil wolves) and goblins beneath them, the eagles (including the Lord of the Eagles) swept down from the mountains and carried the Company to safety in their eyries.

The news that Gandalf received that made him rejoin Bilbo was the fact that the armies of the Goblins and of the Wargs had gotten together.

Bilbo and the dwarves are caught first by trolls, then by goblins. they are trapped up in a tree because of goblins and Wargs

The five armies were: dwarves, elves, humans, goblins and wargs. Gandalf and Beorn were there as well, and the eagles joined in later. Even though he was invisible, Bilbo was knocked unconscious by a rock early in the battle.

In Chapter 7, Gandalf, Bilbo, and the dwarves meet Beorn, the shape-shifter. Beorn warns the party that the Wargs and goblins are gathering an army. They travel to the edge of Mirkwood, and part ways with Gandalf.

The Lord of the Eagles is alerted to the danger that Gandalf and the dwarves are in by the fires that the goblins lit, as well as the howling of the Wargs.

Bilbo rejoins the dwarves after escaping the goblin cave. They is a recap the flight from the goblins in the dark and Bilbo makes up a bit of a story about what happened, keeping the ring a secret. While putting distance between them and the goblins' mountain stronghold they are discovered by a pack of wargs and climb into the trees to escape. The Goblins join the wargs and start to burn Gandalf, the dwarves and the hobbit out of the trees. The giant eagles swoop down from the sky and pluck them from the tree tops and take them to their aerie. After Gandalf talks with the eagles they cook food and eat and then fall asleep.

If you're referring to the incident where the party was trapped in trees - Gandalf in fact did not get rid of the wargs and the Goblins. There were simply too many of them (there's even a reference to Gandalf preparing to go out in a blaze of glory against them). The party survived because they were rescued by eagles. If you're referring to the wargs and goblins at the Battle of Five Armies, Gandalf got rid of them because ultimately the combined forces humans, elves, dwarves, eagles, and a rather tough skin-changer were able to prevail.

Because he did not want the dwarves to know he had it. The ring makes him greedy, and even Gandalf couldnt get it out of him until after his adventure.

they are lanning to capture the dwarves

The wargs and the goblins were meeting up because they were going to attack a human village. The goblins were late because of what happened with the dwarves and by fluke they were at that location. The wargs saw them and surrounded them and a little after the goblins came and were like we got attacked by dwarves and that's when they try to attack the dwarves in the tree. (By doing this they saved the village, which will help them in the future with the war of five armies)

the lord of the eagles, and somewhat gandalf

Bilbo missed how the eagles and Beornings helped to turn the tide against the Wargs and Goblins and towards the eventual victory of the Elves, Men, and Dwarves.

The Lake-men, the Elves of Mirkwood, the Dwarves from the Iron Hills and from Under the Mountain, the Goblins of the Misty Mountains, and the Wargs. The thirteen dwarves fought bravely, Gandalf was there, and even Bilbo, although he did not do much in the way of fighting. The Eagles and Beorn show up, too.

he lit pine cones on fire and threw them at them

He reappears to warn everybody of an approaching army of goblins and Wargs.

They needed to be rescued by the Eagles because they were up in the trees and if they had jumped down they would've been attacked by Wargs and Goblins and the story would've ended there in the middle of the book. The only way to get out of their situation was up. And as the dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf couldn't fly, they got the help of The Eagles. As The Eagles are Gandalf's friends and also the Eagles keep the goblins from attacking innocent men villages.

It is the Dwarves of Dain that launch the first attack. When confronted by Bard, they suddenly attack with a volley of arrows. Moments later Gandalf halts the battle to point out the gathering of goblins and wargs.

The news received by Gandalf was that the Gobin armies and Wargs were joinding forces or getting together.

the dwarves and the men and hobbits win the battle of the five armies against the goblins and wargs.

When? They needed a lot of saving at various times in the Hobbit. However, the usual answer is Gandalf. He saved them from the Trolls and later the Goblins. The Eagles saved them from the wargs and goblins and you might make a case that Beorn and the eagles saved most of the company at the Battle of Five Armies.
