the balloons have satellite tracking device inside which sends signalls to a satellite. The balloon moves through the air in certain places because of the weather, and these movements are tracked by the satellite. the meteoroligists know what these movements means, and can determine almost exactly what is happening: wind currents etc.

How does a satellite help a meteorologist?

Meteorologists usually use weather satellites to predict things like hurricane irene, which just came down the east coast of north america.Weather satellites help scientists to observe weather patterns from a unique vantage point in space, which can allow them to view a larger area of the earth rather than with conventional radar which does not reveal a true image of cloud structure and wind patterns. These satellites can measure many different things and are equipped to send infared images back to earth as well as snapshots of water vapor measurements, temperatures, wind patterns, cloud coverage, storm movement and many other readings.

Why is the weather forecasting tricky even with current technology?

Their are various reasons for this. One reason our predictions were so unaccurate back then is because our knowledge of weather is nothing like it is today. Back then we did not fully understand cloud development. and with what little we did know, we had a rough time spreading the news to others about it. Another reason for such mistakes was the availabililty of technology e.g radar, satellites, weather balloons, etc. However, today, we have more resources readily available so that we can be more accurate. But we never be one hundred percent accurate. But why is that you ask? Because every day the weather changes. For example, we tell you that it is going to be a severe thunderstorm, but the next day, nothing happens. This is because when we put in the prediction, conditions are favorable for such, but within the course of one hour, the storm could have changed direction, or it could have lost updraft, anything can happen. Just understand that weather changes everyday, so you can never be one hundred percent accurate.

Why are the oldest rocks found on earth younger than the oldest lunar rocks that Apollo brought back from the moon?

The Earth is still tectonically active and because Earth has weather. The tectonic activity refreshes the crust as some plates are forced under others, removing old rock from the surface, and things like the sea floor spreading and volcanic activity producing all new crust. Additionally, the weather on the Earth constantly works to erode existing crust and wash it into the oceans. The moon is neither terctonically active nor is there weather. The moon is, in planetary science terms, dead. There is no process to remove old surface rocks and replace with new ones.

What sphere are weather balloons used in?

A weather balloon is something that people who study weather send up into the air to learn more about weather and find weather patterns.

How do hot air balloons pilots get their balloons back to earth?

there is a rope, much like the rope truckers pull for their horns, that you pull down, opening a flap on the top, letting the warm air out. this allows them to float back to earth...

Why do escaped balloons come back to earth?

Escaped balloons can only rise to the altitude where they are the same density as the surrounding air; they cannot go into space. Eventually the helium leaks out and they fall back down.

How do hot air balloon pilots get their balloons back to the Earth?

By releasing some of the hot air in a very controlled manner.

How do hot-air balloon pilots get their balloons back to earth?

What they do is blast cold air into the "hot" air and it makes the air molecules slow down... Thus it makes the air balloon decrease back to earth.

How do satellites get the weather?

Satellites take pictures and accumulate other information into the computer. They analyze the data and send it back to weather stations on earth.

What are the water cycle functions?

What are weather satellites?

Weather satellites are computers, cameras, and radios boosted into space and pointing back down at the Earth. The satellite takes photos of the cloud and weather formations on Earth and transmits them to ground stations, where they are made available to anybody who needs them; weather forecasters, farmers, scientists, and anyone else who has a desire to observe the Earth from 22,800 miles up. Before weather satellites, people were regularly surprised by the weather, which is especially dangerous if you live around the Caribbean Sea and the surprising weather turns out to be a hurricane.
