Get something for the coolant to go into like a bucket. Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator and also remove the radiator cap to help and drain into bucket.

There isn't one. You have to remove the lower radiator hose, which is a poor design.
The radiator is at the front of the engine compartment . It connects to the engine with ( 2 ) large rubber hoses , 1 at the top of the radiator and 1 at the bottom of the radiator at the opposite end
Most of these do not have one.You must remove the lower radiator hose to drain the radiator.
It is at the engine end of the top radiator hose. Drain the radiator into a container and remove the hose at the thermostat housing. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the housing and the thermostat.

Unlike most cars , the 2004 Pontiac gto does not have a drainage plug. Due to this inconvenience, the only way to drain the radiator is to remove it.
At the top of the radiator
Drain the radiator. Remove the clamp on the top hose of the radiator at the engine. Remove the bolts holding the housing. Remove the thermostat and clean the surface. Install the new thermostat and reverse the procedure from there.
