How do you adjust the idle for a 1987 accord carburetor?

On the rear of the carb there should be a black plactic knob on a shaft with a spring. You will probably have to take the air cleaner housing off. Tightenen to idle up, loosen to idle down.

If it has a carburetor, then there should be a screw somewhere on the carburetor. If it's fuel injected, then I don't think you can adjust the idle without hacking into the computer.

If you look on the foot brake side, just where the cable meets the carb, there is a screw a little further in, that will adjust the idle. Use a long screw driver.

If it is a fuel injected engine then you can not adjust the idle, it is computer controled. There is no idle adjustment. If it is a carburetor then there is a small screew over by the throttle cable, down towards the bottom of the carburetor.

There's a small screw on top of the carburetor turn that and it should work I'm not positive I just saw that's what the mechanic did

Actually, it should be don e with a vacuum gauge, to maximum vaccuum. Without one, adjust the idle mixture to max., idle.

First, you will want to be sure that it isn't flooding. Be sure that the automatic choke is working properly. Set the timing to factory specifications. Then you can only adjust the idle fuel air mixture. If it continues to run rich then the carburetor is most likely the fault.

At the base of the carburetor are 2 screws. One adjusts the idle speed and the other adjusts the idle mixture. Screw the idle mixture in until the engine starts missing then screw it out 1 turn. Then, adjust the idle speed screw to about 850 RPM.
