There are two "satanic traditions".

One believes in the literal existence of Satan as portrayed in The Bible, and yet (eevn though the book of Revelation, among others specifically deny this) believe that Satan will eventually win in the battle with God. TO become one, all you have to do is deny Christianity and start worshipping Satan. The form of this worship varies depending on how extreme you want to get.

The other, LaVeyan Satanism, does not believe in a literal Satan, rather they view him as an archetypal, romantic ideal in the same vein as Prometheus in Greek mythology, or even Satan as portrayed in Milton's Paradise Lost, a more tragic figure, unfairly punished for his challenging of the status quo. To become one of those, read the "Satanic Bible" by Anton Szandor LaVey. If you agree with it, you are ipso facto a Satanist. At that point you can choose to join the church (via their website) or not. Its up to you.

There is no wrong way to go about becoming a satanist, unless of course you are being told that human or animal sacrifice, or senseless violence is part of our ways, IT ISN'T.

Depends if you are trying to become a priest in the Church of Satan or just a "satanic priest".

To become a "satanic priest" you must make a pact with Satan and then, with his infernal blessing (or perhaps condemnation is more appropriate), declare yourself a priest and off you go.

In the CoS, and other offshoots, the demands are much higher and can vary dramatically, so you will have to ask them.

Another huge misconception about Satan is from a prophecy in the book of Isaiah 12, concerning a king of Babylon. There has been lots of "wives tales" stemming from the word Lucifer. Christians build on this non-doctrine to mean Satan. In the epic poem of Job and in the book of Zechariah there is mention of ha-satan, or Accuser. This is a title that God bestows on an angel for that moment to test the faith of a person whom God is dealing with. These are allegories meant to illustrate a point in which the author of that particular book is trying to make. Satan is not a real supernatural being. Christianity has manipulated the word satan to stand for the adversary of God. If someone refuses to become a Christian, then they are labeled as followers of Satan. It is the old adage, "If you are not with us, then you are against us." According to Christianity then, If a person is not of Christ, then they are of the Anti-Christ.
