ANSWER

1. Of course Catholics are Christians. Catholic are, in fact, the original Christians and the ONLY Christians for the 1st 1000 years of Christianity. It is through The Catholic Church, herself, that we Christians received the Canon of The Bible.

2. At the Council of Carthage, in 397 AD, The Catholic Church -- the pope in communion/agreement with the Bishops of the Catholic Church -- ruled/declared which writings & letters (among many possible writings & letters) would constitute the Canon of the Holy Bible (both NT & OT), the infallible Word of God. Then The Catholic Church (pope & bishops) closed the Canon of The Holy Bible forever.

3. What is odd is that non-Catholic Christians accept the Catholic Church's decision as infallible re: the NT Cannon while, at the same time, rejecting the Catholic Church's decision re: what constitutes the OT Cannon even though BOTH canons were declared, infallibly, at the SAME Council of Carthage.

4. The Holy Bible would include the OT & NT Canon of the current Catholic Bible for over 1200 years. Then, Protestant Christendom would REMOVE books from the Bible, ie., Macabees, Ester, etc., for no legitimate reason IMO. Protestant Christendom returned the OT Canon to the Canon that Jews declared in the 1st Century AD. At that time, the Jewish Rabbis decided to exclude all OT books not written in Hebrew. Well, Jesus himself and the Apostles quoted, in the NT, several passages from scripture written only in Greek that were later rejected by Jews as part of THEIR OT Canon. The Catholic Church simply rejected the 1st Century Jewish OT Canon because their OT/Bible canon was established/codified POST the existence of Jesus Christ and the authoritative, teaching, preaching and apostolic Christian Church -- already identified as The Catholic Church.

5. IMO, the burden of proof is squarely on non-Catholic Christians to demonstrate why, and on what authority, they removed Books from the Canon of the Christian Bible, which is exactly what they did.

ANSWER

Some Catholics are Christians but not all Christians are Catholics. The terminology and spelling must be precise in understanding what the words "Christian" and "Catholic" mean. "Christianity" [with a capital letter 'C'] means all christians worldwide. The word "catholic" [starting with a small letter 'c'] means "universal", and includes all church denominations in the whole wide world. However, "Catholic" [with a capital letter 'C'] properly refers just to the Roman Catholic Church headquartered in Rome. Accordingly, if the Questioner meant: - "Is being a Christian the same as Roman Catholic?" the answer is "No". but if - "Is being a Christian the same as catholic?" the answer is "Yes".

Yes, you can become a Catholic if you are a christian. Anyone can become a Catholic as long as you go through a RCIA class to learn the Catholic teachings and believe in these

teachings.

If you like, yes.

Catholics are Christians, but if you wish to leave the Catholic Church you are completely free to do so; you certainly wouldn't be the first or last. Although, it would be a mortal sin in the eyes of the Church; but if you cared about that, I guess you wouldn't be leaving. I am however, going to strongly encourage you to think about this decision and why you are contemplating leaving the Church. If you have question's message me.

If you mean, how do you become a non-denominational Christian. You start going to a non-denominational church and stop going to the Catholic church.

Pray and find a church you want to try to attend.

Yes. All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics.

A Christian is someone who is a follower of Jesus Christ: one who professes belief in Jesus as Christ or follows a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus. A Christian is a member of a Christian Church or denomination who might be Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Anglican, etc.

Catholicism is a denomination, and is, therefore, a subset of Christianity. A Catholic is a member of any of the Churches regarded as Catholic, especially a Roman Catholic.

Catholic Answer Christianity is the religion of, the body of faith and morals taught by, the Catholic Church of Christ. The word may be properly extended to include the religious systems of the dissident Eastern churches and of some Protestant bodies (see Christian below). The current popular use of the word [Christianity] in an ethical, subjective sense, is to be deplored: it is stripping it of all objective or historical connotations. So the short answer is, of course you are a Christian if you are a Catholic.

Christian. A name first given to the followers of our Lord at Antioch (Acts xi, 26). Since the rise of Protestantism the name has been used in so many different senses as to have become almost meaningless: it may indicate a Catholic or a Unitarian, or even be applied to an infidel who displays some virtue which is associated with Christ. It may reasonably be applied to the members of all the ancient churches, whether in communion with the Holy See or not, and to those Protestants who profess, explicitly or implicitly, the Nicene creed in its traditional interpretation. the Church puts no definite official meaning on the word, as she does on Catholic.

Actually, Catholics are Christians, so you can't be anything else, unless you are using the word Christian to mean something other than Catholic, in which case, no.

What is better being christians or chatolics?

Well, Catholics are Christians. The word "better" makes the question very subjective and will change depending on who you ask. A Catholic will say it is better to be a Catholic but being a Christian who is not Catholic is the next best thing while a Christian who is not Catholic will say the opposite.
