Depends on the country. In many countries (those following the Westminster model or the Nordic model), one gets to be prime-minister it the party he or she leads gets to win the elections (or, if the system uses proportional representation, and if no party has more than 50% of the seats in parliament, if you are the leader of the coalition that gets to form the government other countries (those following the semi-presidential model), the prime-minister is named by the president.

If you asked about being prime-minister as a career objective, getting into politics as soon as possible is a good idea and making yourself known is a must. You will need a very fast ascendancy in a party of your choice (note that it's a good idea to choose a large mainstream party with a lot of potential for the future). Furthermore, in many countries you are expected to be successful in a different domain than politics, such as business, but this is not obligatory.

The best way is to start by planning a career in politics. University subjects in the areas of Politics and Government are the best choice. Graduates of these courses can gain employment in a number of areas, such as Federal, State and Local government and councils, Electorate offices and Electoral commissions, Foreign Affairs, Public relations Consultants and many places within business and the corporate sector.

When the office of prime minister of Canada becomes vacant (which usually happens through resignation but could occur through death or, in rare cases, by the Crown taking the initiative to remove the prime minister from office), the Crown calls upon someone who appears to have the confidence of the House of Commons to form a government.

Traditionally, the person called upon by the Crown to form the government (i.e., to become prime minister) is the leader of the political party that elected the largest number of members to the House of Commons in the most recent general election.

In cases of a minority government, sometimes a Prime Minister who originally had the confidence of a majority of elected Members of Parliament subsequently loses that confidence. In such cases, the Prime Minister will resign. If the Governor General notices that there is someone else who is supported by a majority of MPs, then she may appoint that person as Prime Minister. Otherwise, she may dissolve the House of Commons, and call for a fresh election.

As a practical matter, therefore, one would first have to become the leader of one of Canada's political parties in order to become Canada's prime minister. Next would be either maintaining the confidence of the House of Commons, or leading the party that elects the largest number of members to the House of Commons in a subsequent election.

In order to do so, one would have to be a work-a-holic, and ardently involved in politics, or possess the skills that would make other politicians take notice, particularly great oratory and analytical skills.

In terms of education, most Prime Ministers stayed in school and received degrees from post-secondary institutions, often becoming lawyers.

You can't run for Prime Minister in Canada. The office is appointed. However, you can run for leadership of a political party. First you have to be a member of a party, with sufficient seniority to have a chance of winning party leadership. Then, you have to wait for a party leadership convention. Different parties have different rules for nomination and voting. The leader of the governing party in the house of commons becomes the Prime Minister, and the other leaders whose parties have seats in the house are opposition leaders. The leader of the largest opposition party is the Leader of the Official Opposition.

In general elections, the leaders attempt to lead their parties to gaining a strong position in the house of commons, preferably to becoming the governing party.

A Prime Minister also needs to have, or needs to acquire, a seat in the House of Commons. For this, they just have to run a successful election campaign within a riding to become a Member of Parliament.

===================================================================

The position of prime minister is neither an elected nor an "appointed" one.

When the position of prime minister becomes vacant, the Governor General will ask someone to "form a government." The person so asked will be the one who, in the judgment of the Governor General, is most likely to have and retain the confidence of the House of Commons. Such a person is almost always the leader of the political party with the most seats in the House of Commons.

There is no legal or constitutional requirement for a prime minister to be a member of the House of Commons, but as a practical matter it is almost essential. Only one Canadian prime minister (Mackenzie Bowell) has governed while sitting in the Senate. In recent times, John Turner was prime minister for a few months without being a Member of Parliament. He subsequently won a seat in the House of Commons, but his party lost the election.

When a prime minister's party loses an election, the prime minister will tender her/his resignation to the Governor General.

First of all you need to be able to speak proper English so your question wouldn't be how to be became prime minister it would be how do you become prime minister. After you learn how to speak English follow these steps. 1. Become a member of a party.

2. Win a seat in parliament in an election.

3. Become the leader of that party. (in theory #2 and #3 could happen in reverse order, but for a major party I don't believe it's ever happened.

4. Have the party that you are the leader of win the most seats in parliament in an election.
