Good question. Well, my dream is...to be an anime artist, but first, I'm wondering if you're meaning a 'manga artist' or a animator, a person who works in the anime studio and create tv anime series. 1. To be a manga artist (mangaka) You must study hard on art. It's not just manga styles and figures you have to study, you must study everything ART. Then it becomes easier to draw realistic things or non realistic things, like chibis. While studying art, you get to find your own way of drawing/doing art/manga. However, art and manga arn't easy. No one can become an artist or a mangaka that easily. Then next step is fine art. If you study fine art (which is sort of like studying art as usual...-_- yep, pretty boring.) then you will cover more skills of handling with pens, brushes, etc. After uni, then you can do whatever you want to do. ^^;; 2. To be an animator... It's much harder to be an animator. To be an animator, you have to study art and proboblly animations. It's exactly like studying 'how to be a mangaka...'. And you MUST master how to draw the same thing over and over again. Lots of practice. (I am telling you, it is not easy. I tried and i failed.) I hope this information answer your question. If you don't get what I've explained, contact a person who does fine art or animation in uni. This might give oyu more information...

At its most basic level, just start doing art that's it...

But if you want to earn money from your art, then you need to find an audience that is receptive to your work, and more importantly they need to be willing to pay for what you do.

This is a lot easier than it sounds, most artists never get the recognition they deserve, and consequently end up broke, or doing another job to keep a roof over their heads, and feed themselves.

Bottom line is in most cases one is paid for their work and thus becomes a professional. However, there are exceptions to this general rule. Post Impressionist Vincent Van Gogh did not make his living selling his paintings. He sold one when he was in a mental institution. It was his last painting before he committed suicide. Van Gogh painted over 400 works of art.

there are multible things you could do, voice acting, animation, writing. if you mean how do you get your own anime there are a lot of probable ways. today the most common way of get an anime out on tv is to first make a manga if it does well in sells it has a chance to get released as an anime. do think you NEED to make a manga as some animes have simply been released out of no where.

Do manga artists need a bachelor degree?

Most manga artists in Japan submit a 'oneshot' manga piece when they are in high school. (Usually in response to some contest a magazine puts out.) After they graduate high school, they usually start a small job and then start creating a manga. If the manga does well, they quit the job and become a full time manga artist. So, no, I don't think manga artists need a bachelor degree.
