Introduction
First, understand what the responsibilities are in becoming a Supervisor. Check out these links to see some relevant information on what is involved and what the Supervisor community is like.
You also need to contribute regularly and prove your participation on WikiAnswers. Do you like to contribute to one area specifically? Do you enjoying editing all over the site? Either way, as long as you are consistently active, you are on your way to becoming a Supervisor.
Floating Supervisor and Category Supervisor
A Floating Supervisor is a supervisor that has all of the tools a Category Supervisor has, without the responsibility of overseeing a certain area of this website. Starting off as a Floating Supervisor is a good way to begin.
When you are ready, you can contact a Supervisor and tell them that you want to become one. If they think you are qualified, they will recommend that you become one to The Initiates Program (see below) or a Community Assistant; and you can decide if you'd like to Supervise a category or be a Floating Supervisor across the site.
To be a category supervisor, you should be knowledgeable about the category. Bear in mind however that you are more likely to be asked to join or referred to The Initiates Program by the management when they receive the recommendation (read more below).
Programs
A common way to become a supervisor is to enlist in the SPA (Special Project Assistant) program. When an SPA, you will be assigned a certain amount of tasks regarding different aspects of WikiAnswers, such as splitting alternates and recategorizing questions, to see if you are responsible enough to become a supervisor.
The newest and fastest way to become a Supervisor is to join The Initiates Program (TIP). This program is especially dedicated to training new Supervisors, you will be assigned a mentor and given tasks in basic tools around the site to assess your knowledge of the tools and the procedures as well as your ability to follow the guidelines and Terms of Use. In fact, many people who request to be a Supervisor are told to join TIP first.
TIP has a 98% success rate. Meaning 98% of everybody who completes the program becomes a Supervisor.
When you become a Supervisor you will automatically be enlisted in a program called the Mentoring Program. You will be taught by a mentor how to use the Supervisor tools, learn the rules for each Supervisor tool and learn the proceedures you need to follow. You will be required to complete this program before you can do most things that Supervisors can do (ie - join Vandal Patrol, etc).
Requirements
In addition, you must be at least 15 years old to become eligible to be invited to become a WikiAnswers Supervisor. You must be able to demonstrate the social skills and maturity to interact well with others.
Any past warnings on your account will also be taken into account when deciding whether you are suitable to become a Supervisor. If you are known to have been immature in the last six months, your chances, to be frank, are very slim.

Sometimes you will be required to join TIP first. Joining TIP has additional requirements including the above:
Supervisors need to understand how WikiAnswers works. By completing these requirements you get a better feel of how WikiAnswers works.
Joining the team
When you have met the requirements and are ready to take the next step, email either:
You only need to email one, not both.
Be sure to include your interest in becoming either a Category or Floating Supervisor and provide your username. Your contributions are then reviewed, and you are contacted as soon as possible. It helps if you join other programs before you apply. Programs like TIP (The Initiates Program), WIT (Wiki Influential Teens), CO (Community Outreach), and/or SPA all help your cause.

As you may be aware, supervisors get powers that other users don't!
These powers include:
There is probably more information about being a supervisor that I haven't mentioned, so you can mail a supervisor for more info, or a mentor, or both! I'm sure they will be happy to help!
The Managing Editor is the person who runs things within the WikiReviewers. It is not a volunteer position, and the position is not currently open. There are other positions within the group available to sign up for. They are Literary Editor, Archive Researchers, Copy Editor, and Editor at Large.

It all depends on the person, each person is different such as for example I earned Supervisor in a matter of three weeks, however, as I said, each person is different. For the most part, contributing and making wonderful contributions will get someone the status, however, do note that before someone gets status, each member must be sent to the higher-ups for observation, he or she will then be observed to see if the other Supervisor who recommended him or her actually was right in recommending them.

Supervisors on WikiAnswers are just regular users who have been very active on the WikiAnswers community. You can become a supervisor just by doing your best to help out on WikiAnswers in any way you can. If an existing supervisor notices how good a job you are doing, he may recommend to a WikiAnswers administrator that you be made a supervisor.
The time it takes to become a supervisor on WikiAnswers depends on how long it takes you to complete the TIP program and missions.
