It depends on what type of a plumber you want to become. To work on prevailing wage projects you need to go through an approved apprenticeship program. The two major organizations that offer them are the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (union) and the Associated Builders and Contractors ( Merit Shop). I personally went to the unions school but now work for merit shops cause you get alot more of your money. The union deducts alot for their benefits program. The union is alot larger though. If you want to become a service n repair or residential plumber just look for ads in the paper or Craigslist. Those jobs are so easy even the most feebleminded man can make it there for years. Although you will only make around 20-30 dollars an hour.
