If you truly love someone, you need to look at the reasons why you no longer want to be with that person. Did they cheat on you? Have they hurt you in any way that cannot be mended? When you know the reason why you want to leave them, focus on that instead of the fact that you love them so much you cannot hurt them.

∙ 15y agoGently and kindly, telling them the truth that you still feel deeply for them but feel like you need a rest / change. This actually happened to me 25 years ago when the girl told me I was devasted but to this day we are still very close friends. Good Luck.

Don't make it seem like there's something wrong with him.
Do it out of the blue, and try to make it not awkward.
Call him, and say something like,

∙ 13y ago- If you truly love someone then there is no problem that cannot be corrected so you must ask yourself why you feel the need to break up with this person. If you have made some decisions in your life and need to move forward then honesty is the best policy. Sit down with that person and explain how you feel because they at least deserve an explanation. Also remember that your true love may only come around once so you may need to rethink your decision.
