In the engine bay, remove the inlet and outlet hose from the firewall for the heater core, get a heater hose connector that matches the hose sizes (fair warning they are 2 different sizes but i cant remember) and just join the 2 hoses together with the connector and some clamps. you wont have heat or defrost by doing this though.

It is the drain for air conditioning condensation. I was going to say heater core drain for when it springs a leak or [goes bad]. Is there two of these hoses in different locations or dose one serve both purposes?

Just take one of the heater hoses loose at the heater core and loop it back to the motor to the other heater hose. Or you can take them both loose at the heater core and put a splice connector between them is this is easier.

I am about to attempt this same procedure on my 97 also, according to the Haynes Manual, theres a screw on the parking brake handle that you have to remove, and one on the shifter also, after that its just a bunch of plastic fastners. once you remove the console and the floor panels, its supposedly just held in by 2 clips.

just pull the hoses off the heater core and put them together easy all done under the hood. Mike join the 2 hoses together
