How do you change a clutch in a 1990 Toyota Celica?

Changing the clutch on these cars isn't really easy. you have to remove all connection and wires going to transaxle. disconnect steering knuckle and half axles. remove the lower suspension support bar. then undo the bolts holding the transmission to the engie and lower out the transmission. then remove clutch off the engine and replace. You can get a clutch kit for a 1990 celica for rough 130 dollars at autozone.

the water pump is part of the timing belt or chain. you have to take the belt or chain off to change the water pump. if you change the water pump, change the belt too.

The 1990 Celica door will be a direct bolt on to a 1992 Celica GT. Even the Coupe model doors were the same.

If it's like my 1990, it's real tough to get to...buried somewhere near the tank I think. I gave up and took it to my mechanic. It took him a good while to change it, but it was worth it.

follow the lower radiator hose to the engine. the hose attaches to the thermostat housing.

If you have a reservoir for the clutch fluid , then it's HYDRAULIC. Some vehicles have hydraulic clutch master and slave cylinders, which require no periodic adjustment after initial installation. Other cable-operated systems have a self-adjusting mechanism built into the clutch pedal mechanism to eliminate the need for periodic adjustment. But the majority of cable-operated clutch systems do require periodic adjustment. It is easy to do and can be followed step by step with pictures in a CHILTON or Haynes manual. Hope this helps.

only a qualified technician can handle r12 freon. bring it to an auto shop that does a/c work.
