Purchase a new pump and gasket. Jack up the passenger side front of the car, support the unit well. Remove the wheel and tire. Remove the lower radiator hose and drain the coolant into a pan, reuse if not dirty. From the wheel well loosen and remove the 3 hex (6mm?) socket metric bolts on the pump. From the top loosen the alternator and remove the alternator belt. Go underneath and remove the pump pulley. Remove the 10 mm bolts from the pump, make note of the special T bolt. Memorize the pump orientation, use a rubber mallet to tap the pump loose and remove. Clean the gasket surface on the pump housing. Use a sharp stick to scrape, do not damage the sealing surface of the pump body or the unit will leak. Install the gasket and new pump insert in correct orientation. Installation is reverse of removal. When ready fill the engine with coolant from the upper radiator hose. Turn the heater on full temp. Install the hose and fill the over flow tank. Run the engine and check for leaks, mind the engine temperature. Do not let it overheat. While it idles view the overflow tank through the cap fill hole. The hose that comes from the top of the radiator will spurt and bubble and works to help clear the air out of the cooling system. Make sure that the tank does not run dry, fill to marks. Next day check and top up. Keep an eye on the tank level for a few days. Be happy you just saved a couple hundred bux by doing it yourself.

The water pump on a 2001 VW Passat is replaced by removing the engine accessories, drive belt, draining the radiator, and removing the hoses. The pump is then unbolted and a new pump put into its place.
The water pump in most cars are attached to the cooling fans and I have a 1994 Mercedes C220 and the water pump is attached to the cooling fan, right in front of the engine. It has like eight bolts to unscrew, and bear in mind that the snake belt goes around the water pump, the alternator and the ac compressor. So as you take off the water pump and replace it, you will also put back the long snake belt. Most water pumps like the ones on Mercedes C220 would run you like $45 to $60 dollars. When you take off the water pump, make sure you clear all the old gasket and the sealant. Then apply the new sealant on both the engine block, the gasket and the water pump and tighten back the screws in a diagonal sequence. Like you tighten the bolt on the top, followed by tightening the bolt at the bottom. That way, you would avoid any leak that may result from nonalignment In some cars, you can loosen the tensioner to allow back the snake belt back into position, and then tighten back the tensioner A good trick is before you take off the water pump or the belt, make a sketch or a diagram on how the belt goes through the water pump, the alternator and the ac compressor. That way, you avoid any mistake. A good test to know if the the belt is tight, is to press the belt with one finger and if it does not go down more than two inches, then it is tight. Also, if you start the engine and you do not hear the belt squeaking then the belt is tight. If you do not have the time, take it to a mechanic and have them install it for you. They should not charge you more than $60. Good luck. Maurice Amadi
The water pump on a 2006 Saab 93 2.0l is replaced by removing the engine accessories, disconnecting the radiator hoses, and unbolting the pump. It can then be removed from the engine, a new gasket installed, and the replacement pump put in place.
The water pump is timing belt driven and if the timing is off even one tooth you will be paying about $4,000 to replace the WHOLE engine.
There is an access panel under the rear seat. Fold the rear seat forward, you will see the round cover. Remove the three screws and there is your fuel pump.

Drain coolant, make room to work, mark & hold engine timing, remove timing belt, r&r water pump, place belt on counter clockwise, assemble same as removal.
Remove Power Steering Pump(3 bolts one behind pulley near the hinge). Remove alternator too. Then the pump should be accessable This according to haynes manual

LOOKING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CHANGE WATER PUMP 2001 PONTIAC GRAND AM 2.4 LITTER
You should have the timing belt changed between 90-100K miles. When you are having the belt changed you should also change the water pump rollers. I had this done on my 2001, the total cast was $950.00
To replace the water pump in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 v8, it was $375 including labor and everything.
YOU DON'T!!! I have a 2003 avalanche and I had to replace the water pump you can't replace the seals!!! It's a defect in the 2001 to 2003 avalanche the seals fail.
You need to remove the accesory bracket from the engine. Powere steering pump, ac compressor, alternator and then the bracket. Then you can get the pump out. Not a lot of fun.
