Remove the alternator belt on your 2000 Oldsmobile. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Put the new alternator on and reverse the process.

did you try removing the alternator first? no i didn't try to remove the alternator first
To change the voltage regulator on almost all modern GM cars, replace the alternator. The regulator is inside the alternator, and is not considered a field servicable part.

this is a fun one you have to remove the power steering pump bolts and swing it out of the way to allow enough space to slide out the alternator. of course that is after you support and tilt the engine so you can get the alternator bolts out to. dont forget to disconnect the ground wire from the battery first. not a hard job just has to be a certain way
