Jack your truck up, take your tires off, and look at the brakes, you can usually see them. if not you need to take the piston housing off that pushes the brake pads against the rotor. another clue that your brake pads are worn is your brake fluid. if its low it usually means your pads are worn (the more you have to push on the brakes to get the pads to push on the rotor the more fluid is used)

My front wheel bearings just went in my 04 mountaineer, and we tried to replace them ourselves, but in order to get to the bearings you have to have the truck up on a lift, so unfortunately we had to send it to a mechanic.
It should be the back / right side. That's where it is on the 2002. The truck will have to be lifted to get to it.
The computer module in a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer is located behind the rear right panel in the truck space. The rear right seat belt panel must be removed and then the lower panel. The module is located beneath a green plug.

Take the vehicle to the shop as soon as possible. You either have a bad master cylinder or wheel cylinder, or a broken line. This could be very dangerous.

Look under truck at drivers side front between door and tire. If ya see the the front axle driveshaft andya have NO auto/4x4 hi/4x4 lo select switch above cigarette lighter then its AWD. i have a 2000 mercury mountaineer awd. Also the 5 liter v8 was awd.
