Well the easiest way is to shear off the rivots with an air chisel. IF one is not available you can painstakingly drill them out. If they have been replaced before then you will just need to un bolt the old ones. Be careful when un-doing the stud nut on the upper, as the front suspension is loaded with a torsion bar, if it is 4 wheel drive.

No you do not need a press. I recently did upper and lower ball joints on my 95 T Bird and it is all bolt on parts. you cant buy just the ball joint, you have to get the whole control arm with the sealed ball joints already in it.

You can replace just the ball joints on the lower control arms , but the upper ball joints come with a new control arm

It depends on the year, and whether it's 2WD or 4WD. I suggest entering your question again with the year. People have posted answers for specific year models. All Ford Rangers from 1993 to 1997 have "I-beam" front suspensions as opposed to the upper and lower control arms that most vehicles have. There is a detailed answer for replacing the upper and lower ball joints for '93 through '97 Ford Ranger ball joints at the question: "How do you change ball joints on 199X Ford Rangers?"

You can't service the lower ball joints by themselves. You must replace the entire lower control arm.

Two. One on each side in the front. There are only lower ball joints on this vehicle. There are no upper ball joints - there are struts instead.
