Remove the tire. Use a C clamp to wider the caliper gap a bit to remove it from the rotor, and to allow room for the newer (thicker) pads. Unbolt and support the caliper (NEVER let the caliper hang by the brake hose), it's fairly straight forward from there. Try to replace the springs that hold them in place, instead of reusing them.
The tranny ( or transaxle / transmission ) on a 1993 Mercury Tracer is in the engine compartment bolted to the engine on the drivers side of the engine

There is none. It is electronic. Try replacing the idle motor.
The 1.9 liter and 1.8 liter four cylinder engines used in the 1993 Mercury Tracer are NON - INTERFERENCE engines according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera )

No check , Just drain and add 2.83 qt. ATF in the speedo hole !
1st pull off front wheels, you will see a caliper which houses the brake pads, there are two bolts or pins located on back side of caliper, remove them, then pry caliper off from rotor, remove old pads and before installing new ones, retract the piston on the caliper so it will be easier to reinstall caliper on to brake rotor reistall the 2 bolts and tighten down.
You do not need a picture. Look at the engine. On the very bottom of that engine is the oil pan.
DOT 3 will work just fine
