I just changed the flasher plug on my daughters 2000 Sunfire. Don't bother with the fuse box, it ain't there. Don't look for a 'silver round plug, it is square and green.
From the brake pedal arm, move your hand up 6 to 8 inches, have the flashers turned on so you can hear it, When you touch it, you will actually feel it blinking. It is attached to a support post. Hint, depending on the model, if you shine a flashlight through the open space below the steering column you can get a view of it. It will be attached to a support. Wiggle it out, in the direction of the radio, it will take some force. the new OEM replacement plugs do not have the piece that reattaches to the support. After I replaced the plug, and tested it, I just used a zip tie to reattach it to the support.
It took me 15 minutes to fine the plug, it took less time to remove it, replace it and reattachit.
The flasher is located underneath the dashboard, to the right of the steering column. It is mounted on a piece of metal, with a wire plug attached to it. The original equipment flasher has a snap-fit to it, so it may take some prying to get it loose and slide it off the metal mount.
Buy a replacement flasher ( the OEM one seems to have been discontinued ) and plug it in. You may not be able to re-mount it to the metal bracket, but you shouldn't need to worry about it. I'd probably use a wire tie or some tape to keep it from dangling below the dashboard.
Remone the knee panel under the steering wheel (2, 7mm screws) pull forward. Flasher unit is behind fuse panel.
Behind the fuse panel that is on the drivers side of the dash.
