Ignition coils are easily accessable on top of the engine. Disconnect the electrical connector, unscrew the bolts (2 per coil, torx T-25), pull the coil straight out. Cylinder numbers are: Pass side, front to back - 1, 3, 5. Driver side, front to back - 2, 4, 6.

∙ 18y agoThe Kia Sportage has Two ignition coils, they sit on the top side of the engine On the spark plugs, each coil serves two plugs. The plugs are located on the top of the head and to get to them you need to remove the air intake to the throttle body, There is a black cover plate about 4 inches wide held down by I believe 6 bolts, remove the cover and there you will find the coils.Each coil is helld in place by 2 bolts. ∙ 9y agoBegin by removing the retaining ring at the top of your 1999 Kia ignition switch. Slide the ignition switch out and remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.
