There is a small set metric set screw on the drivers side of handle holding it in place. There is a small hole to stick you metric allen wrench in to loosen the set screw.
The shifter knob has a slot in the leather about halfway down. In that slot is a u shaped clip. pull it out and lift the knob as an assembly.
The gear shifter has a retaining clip, just below the shifter knob. Hold the retaining clip in, on both sides of the shifter rod, and the shifter knob will come off.

I have a 94 Firebird and on the bottom of the shifter knob there is a "U" shaped clip. You will have to shift into L1 to see it since it is on the front of the knob. Once you pull out the clip, it slides off and you can replace it with whatever kind you wnat but make sure the "push to shift" function is on the new knob.

If it's automatic look on the front of the shifrt knob towards the radio, and on the bottom of the knob you will see a push in horseshoe pin that has to come out to take the shifter knob off.

there is a clip on the front of the shifter. pull this out and the outer part of the shifter will come off. next remove the center console. then you can get to the 4 bolts that hold the shifter in place.
They are plastic actually. I cut them off, and smooth over, and replace. You can always stick a screw driver at the base, and pry off between the knob, and the shifter. Thanks.
There is a small button on the shifter knob just below the large button that you press to change shifter positons.
Very simple. There is a clip in the shifter knob that looks a lot like a big wiring staple. You can grip it with pliers and pull it straight out. The knob will then lift straight up and off. The clip is near the bottom of the shift knob and sticks in front to back, or back to front, don't remember but its an easy removal.

If you have amanual transmission You have to push down on the plastic ring above the shifter boot. after you push down the ring, Now you can unscrew the shifter knob. IF you have a automatic transmission you have to remove the screw on the side of the shifter knob. (Be careful the button on the shifter knob is spring loaded)
Get somebody to hold the shifter still while somebody twists and pulls the knob and it comes right off. Did it to mine yesterday. Good luck findin a new knob to fit it. Cause i couldnt!

Remove shift release button off the top of the shifter, inside there is a small snap ring. Remove the snap ring and lift the shifter knob off.
