Removing the spark plugsI know I asked the question, but I found out how to do it. You have to jack up the vehicle, remove the front wheels and dust shields, and that's it. Remove and replace the plugs and wires as normal. If you can disconnect the steering column I would advise doing so, since about an hour and a half of the 6 hours I spent changing the plugs was devoted to working around it to get the #6 plug out. The wires weren't too difficult, but some of them loop around a lot, so make sure you match up the lengths as close as possible. Also, I asked someone if he ever changed his, and he said that he took it to a garage to have it done, and it cost him almost $400! So if you have the time, it'll save you a lot of money.

Well, I learned one other thing about this...the Autolite Platinum plugs that I used didn't seem to screw in as far as the Motorcraft ones that were in before, and they didn't. As I was driving (at 65 mph on the interstate) I heard a rattling noise, then a bang, sparks flew out from the side, and the engine noise increased greatly. 2 of the plugs blew out. I don't know if it was because of the angle the plugs are on, but those autolite ones just don't seem to go in well, so I don't recommend using them. I know I won't again.

-mikegonzo0351: If it took you 6 hours to change the plugs something was wrong. I didn't remove nothing. No tire or dust shield. the explorer is high enough to get underneith and just stick your arm up in there to get the last plug on the passenger side and if you stick your arm down where the coolant reservoir and ac piping you can reach the other 3 on the passenger side with some finess. the driver side you DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE STEERING!!! just work underneith it and just feel for it and you'll be fine.

total time for me was 1hr tops to do all 8 plugs for the first time.
