Tensioner pulley replacementI've just done this, this past weekend. Obviously release the tension and remove the serpentine belt. There is already a FAQ this in the GTP section. The tensioner pulley has a 15mm bolt securing it. You'll most likely need a good breaker bar or a pipe on a regular ratchet to give a little bit of leverage to break the bolt. Once the bolt has broken free take it all the way out, the pulley will slide right off. Replace the pulley back on the bracket and replace bolt. I may be misunderstood but I believe it would be in one's best interest to replace the bolt as well. If not I put a little thread locker on the threads and tighten the bolt down. Ensure the pulley spins freely. When I tightened mine it would not spin freely hence my using thread locker and backing off the bolt until the pulley spun freely. Any way from there you will need to replace the belt. If you are using the same belt just pull back on the tensioner and put belts back on. If it's a new belt you will need to loosen the bolt on the tensioner until you can get the new built installed. Retighten the tension bolt and your good to go. The reason is the belt stretches a bit over time and the tensioner counteracts the stretch.

Hope I could be of help.

Does a Pontiac grand prix have a timing belt or chain?

The Pontiac Grand Prix has a Timing Chain with a spring loaded tensioner. The tensioner is know to wear, crack and then break. The timing chain and tensioner should be replaced at 100,000 miles. This is a pretty big job that can be done with the motor in the car. $$$ Ray
