I have Mitsubishi Montero Limited 2001 with 74,000 miles on it. During the winter I had few times situation where gear shifter felt like it was "sticking" moving in a "thick oil", I attributed that to a cold weather. Just yesterday I came back from vacation (took different car) got into Montero and had problem shifting, it feld like shifter is moving in a thick mud. After few tries, I was able to drive in reverse, however shifting into "drive" is difficult and requires few tries before it catches. It feel almost like there is a glue in the gear box. Any idea what to look for?
The Montero was made by Mitsubishi

There is no filter in this model car.

THE FILTER IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GAS TANK.
The Mitsubishi Gallant does not have a removable transmission filter. It is found within the internal workings of the transmission itself.
fue filter can be located at the left rear tyre and you will need a 14 spanner to pull filter and a 10 socket to remove bracket.
The filter is located behind the torque converter in the Lancer. Changing the filter is a long process and is recommended only if there is an issue with the transmission.
The fuel filter is located on the drivers
Inside the transmission case. You'll have to disasemble the torque converter housing from the unit, so the transmission will have to be out of the car in order to change the filter . The most that you can do is change the fluid every 30,000 miles.
You will needs to get a new part and possibly a new filter. A local automotive shop can help you get the parts and install them.
Just tried to buy one from dealer, was informed it does not have a cabin filter
