First jack the front of the car and place two jack stands underneath, get a large pan at least two feet by two feet and at least three inches deep. Make sure the car is cold, dont try it when its hot, you will need a socket wrench also. Get plenty of rags, You most likely have a turbo 350 tranny, remove the two bolts that hold your shifting linkage and the cotter key that holds it ti the ratchet shifter, move this aside, loosen all the bolts BUT DONT TAKE THEM OUT,starting with the rear bolts the ones closest to the driveshaft remove them completely, the work your way to the front removing from both sides, the pan should start to dorp in the rear, if not pry slowly and make sure you have the big pan we talked about under the tranny, oil sould start to come out, then continue to remove the bolts slowly and grab the pan at all time so it doesnt drop all of a sudden. once removed remove the bolts from the filter and grab it and pull hard towards you, once you have the filter in your hand check the long snout and make sure the rubber O ring came out, youll see what it looks like in your new filter, if it did not come out get a metal hook to reach up and pull it out, careful not to scratch the hole in the tranny. once removed push up the new filter and bolt it down clean the pan and place the new gasket and reassemble in reverse of removal process; good luck and if not sure take it to the transmission shop.
