first you disconnect the neg battery cable. Then u empty out the coolant. Then you take the fan shroud off, ehich is the piece covering the fan blades.take note u cannot remove the shroud without the fan itself,so you have to back that big nut off. I held the pulley with a crowbar towards the left side of the back of the pulley.remove the coolant hoses, three of them one on the left of the pump, one one top which is the bypass hose and the metal tube coming from the coolant return. take note u will most likely need to replace that tube. Chrysler sold me one for 22.00 but advance auto had one in their radiator parts for 12.00. they did not know they had the part just so happen when i went for hose clamps i saw it. take the crowbar and pry pump off.remember for reassembly alternate your bolts in retighting. the haynes book helped me alot.i did the job myself and i am a female.so far no leak ....just a reminder when u go for the coolant return tube Chrysler will give you a short piece aboutr 6 inches with a bend my original piece was much longer,so i brought a hose coupling set and extended the hose out of the firewall.hope this works.

I just had my water pump replaced on my 1996 Grand Cherokee for the first time at 120,000 miles. It cost 75 for the pump and 25 for the labor. They were already doing a tune-up so I don't know if that decreased the cost of the labor charge. Now my "coolant sensor bad" no longer displays. Yahoo to that.
