Hi,
The 'easiest' way to see if the gauge AND sensor for the temperature gauge is or should be working is to connect a scan tool to the van that can read and display the information that the computer is receiving about the coolant temperature.
Very often, there are conditions where the temperature gauge will read at its minimum value, but the actual temperature is higher. This is because the computer actually controls the gauge, and will set the gauge to its lowest value if it thinks the engine temperature is not rising fast enough.
If you have a multimeter, you can also test the resistance of the sensor (located near the thermostat housing). The value should change as the temperature changes. Again, if that sensor is working but the gauge is not moving, more troubleshooting is required to find the cause of this issue.
I have included a link that shows the location of the sensor (look at the bottom pictures).
Good Luck, Greg
Check for power and ground to the sending unit . If you have that then ground the sending unit and see if it works. If the gauge works then the sending unit is defective.
I found an independant mechanic, who works out of his own building on a farm, who does this for about $375
check the altinator
If the fuel gauge isn't working on a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer it could possibly be because the float is stuck in the fuel tank. I had this problem when I got my 99 blazer, the float and sensor for the fuel gauge is on the fuel pump which is in the fuel tank to keep it temperature regulated. I had to replace my fuel pump, which ended up going bad on me, and after it was replaced the gauge works just fine.
Check the cable, check the fuses, check the tension on the dial.
What are you talking about? My temperature gauge works fine. Though, if it wasn't I would check the temperature sending unit.
Quick check gauge... It looks like a big tire gauge and works much the same way. Autozone has one. Wish I could post pics on answers.com
check for broken wire from fuel sender unit in fuel tank to gauge. check fuel sender unit for proper operation. float may be stuck in the tank then check fuel gauge
if it works intermittently, check the wiring/plug connections under the seat. If it never works, change the relay/ and or fuse. also check the plug behind the seat heater button on the door.
Maybe the temp gauge works, but there is a separate coolant temperature sensor for the engine control system, which includes the fans. Check it out.
it works in side the battery
your rpm gauge works off your engin your speed gauge works off the transmission where the cable slides into the transmission tha plastic geer is probably stripped
