about 2.5-3 quarts. and there should be a stick a little bit ways in the engine. oh yeah...put the fliud in the dip stick hole... trust me. 2001 sunfire doesnt have a dipstick, it has a red fill cap on top of the transmission and a drain plug on the side of the transmission. Check the fluid while the engine is running, take out drain plug on SIDE of trans, fast drip means it has to much fluid, slow drip its correct, and no drip means its low.
how to check fuse for horn in a 1998 Pontiac sunfire
as far as i know you cant check the transmission fluid on a 2000 Pontiac sunfire. It uses dexcool automatic transmission fluid and very rarley needs to be changed, i have a manual shift and it never has to be changed. Actually the only way that you can change it is by having it flushed the same way you flush a radiator, it has to be sucked out by a machine.
it doesnt have adip stick it has a bolt in the side of trans better take to dealer
You mileage will vary dependent on the condition of your car, your driving habits and which engine/transmission you have. Check the web site below for exact specs. http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1995-to-2005-pontiac-sunfire-6.htm

There's no dipstick on a Sunfire that new. You need to add fluid at the transaxle itself. There's a plug in the side of the transaxle that needs to be removed to check or fill the fluid.
There is a trans dip stick on the back side of the engine. This is where you add fluid also. GoodluckJOe
check your fuses first, then check your bulbs and then your relay.

Check the bulbs, check the fuse then check the switch.
check the owners manual
I have an 01 Pontiac sunfire and I have noticed that the check gages light comes on when the gas is low. I have never seen any other indicator come on for low fuel.
I have a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire . The "check gages " light comes on when my gas tank is on empty. I dont know if this is a right answer but this is how I know I need to fill up at the gasbar .
With the transmission in park, and the engine running. Remove the dipstick wipe and dip again then read. It will show fluid if its cold or warm. (Just a tip use dexron 3 type trans fluid.)
Some early model Sunfires have a dipstick. In my '96, the dipstick is located near the firewall, down and inboard from the brake fluid reservoir.
cant you need a scanner to check codes from 1996 and newer
CHECK THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD OR CHECK YOUR OWNERS MANUAL THE FUSE SECTION
Check the main fusebox under the hood.
check down under the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
check the piece of cardboard where the spare tire is. it should be on there
your vehicle does not have a dipstick tube, your trans is a sealed unit and cannot have fluid added to it.the only way to check your fluid level is at the transmission itself.there is a plug on the passenger side top area of your trans case
The G5 has a transmission dipstick. Find it and check the fluid level as normal.
