It is a very difficult task, but it can be done. On the transmission itself, close to the back of the filter and pan, there is a check plug. This plug, when opened, should be filled to just overflowing. 1. Jack your vehicle up or raise it on a lift, but it needs to be level so the fluids are level as well. 2. Open the check plug on the transmission. 3. Start your engine and shift the transmission into neutral. The transmission fluid should be at the level of the opened check plug. 4. If the fluid is lower than the check plug, or no fluid drips out, fill the transmission fluid until it just seeps out.

There is no dipstick, but there is a cap to fill transmission fluid accessible from under the hood. It is located on the right side of the engine bay between the power steering pump and the intake box.

Don't wait until the sensor goes off to check/replace transmission fluid.

The transmission plug can be reached down from the top of the engine forward of the brake fluid reservoir. Wear a pair of mechanics gloves, it's hot.

When changing the transmission fluid of a car it is important to know its fluid capacity. The 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix holds between 7 and 8 quarts of fluid.

there is a transmission fluid check dipstick under the hood, get a funnel and use this tube. It drains directly into the transmission. check often while adding fluid, to much will damage it.

User Avatar

The refill is also the same access to check the fluid level.Use a funnel to add transmission fluid as needed.Use recommended fluid.

User Avatar

there is not a good way for you to check it, but a dealership can check it for you. the transmission also holds only 6.5 .qts if you have the 3.0l

User Avatar

Check the transmission fluid level, if it's not enough add more fluid.

User Avatar

You add fluid at the exact same place you check the fluid level.

User Avatar

GM eliminated dipsticks for automatics. You can only drain, and refill. There will be a little red/yellow cap near the top of the transmission by the firewall, where the dipstick used to be.

A 2001 Mazda Protege has a seal system, meaning the car does not have a dipstick to check the transmission fluid. It is best to take it to a dealership to have the fluid tested, but a person can check it by slightly pulling out the plug under the car, and see the condition of the fluid coming out of the plug.

User Avatar

You have to take it to the dealership to be check. It has to be at a set temp. to check, with a special tool.

User Avatar

You remove the transmission dip stick. You will need a small funnel that will fit in the tube where the stick goes in at to check fluid level in transmission. Put fluid in there.
