You use an electrical generator. The shaft can be turned by any source of

mechanical energy . . . such as falling water, a windmill turned by wind, a

turbine turned by steam, a belt turned by a gas engine, a treadmill turned

by hamsters etc. When the shaft turns, out comes electrical energy.

You use a device called a generator. These come in all sizes from a kilowatt up to hundreds of megawatts, and can generate AC or DC current according to design. A generator basically consists of a rotor rotating within a stator, both have conducting windings, and produce electricity by virtue of the Faraday effect, the movement of a conductor in a magnetic field. The mechanical energy can be supplied with engines of size from a small gasoline engine up to the largest power plant steam turbines.

The motor does the trick.

A magnetic field is known to exert a force on a wire if a current runs through it.

So, all you need a big magnet and a bunch of wires, run a current through the wires, and the magnet will exert a force on them, and will push and do mechanical work and produce mechanical energy.

If you have a conductor pass through a magnetic field a current isinducedin the conductor. So if you have two very powerful magnets producing a strong magnetic field between them and you have a coil of wire that passes through them on the cyclical nature, then you have a m->e generator.

By moving a conductor through a magnetic field. This will induce an electric current into this conductor. Look up the word dynamo in Wikipedia.
