There are several methods of desalination:

  • Distillation. The fresh water evaporates and is collected in a cooler place. This can be simple or complex. Rain is a distillation process. Heating up the salt water makes it evaporate faster.
  • Reverse Osmosis. There are membranes that pass fresh water. Pressuring the salt water to push it through the osmotic membrane speeds up the process. This is the preferred way for large scale drinking water plants, because of its lower energy requirement.
  • Electrolysis. Turn the salt water into oxygen and hydrogen then recombine them. Result pure water.

It's called desalination. Yes, by the use of reverse osmosis we can convert sea water as pure water.

It can also be purified through evaporation.

Can we obtain pure water from pond or muddy water by filtrationexplain?

It depends on what type of filtration method is being used. Particle filters can be used to strain undissolved material from the water resulting in clear water. But it may not be pure since it will not remove chemicals dissolved in the water. If you know what impurities are in the water, it may be possible to treat the water with chemicals to nullify or precipitate the impurities. But it still may not be pure as the resulting chemical reaction may leave something else in the water. The best way to actually get pure water is to distill the water. This is done by boiling the water to convert it to steam and then cooling it to convert it back to water. Chemicals in the water will either be left behind in the original container or boil away as gas and the resulting steam will condense as pure water

Is the water that you drink an absolutely pure substance?

Yes and no. Drinking water is absolutely pure H2O. In some locales, however, the water has been augmented by the addition of chemicals. Even de-salinated sea water -- which is again pure H2O, may contain the odd natural contaminant, making it less than 'absolutely pure'.

What is the volume of 250 g of sea water The volume of asame mass of pure water will it be higher or lower than thatsea water?

Is Seawater pure substance or mixture?

Salt water is a homogeneous mixture called a solution containing salt and water. Salt is the solute and water is the solvent. It is a mixture because the salt and water are not chemically combined and are not present in definite proportions.

What physical standards are Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales linked to?

The boiling and freezing points of pure water and sea level.

What is the freezing point of sea water and pure water?

the sea water contains more salt. the pure water do not contain salt. the density of sea water is more than density of pure water. as there is more salt in sea water it is corrosive against the metals like aluminium. the pure water is not corrosive in nature. sea water is harmful for drinking. pure water is good for drinking.

Does a coin sink faster in pure water than it does in sea water?

Yes, a coin does sink slightly faster in pure water than it does in sea water. The dissolved salts in sea water make the water denser, and as a result, objects immersed in sea water will experience greater buoyancy than they do in fresh water.

What is sea water compound or a mixture?

It's a compound mixture because it's not pure water so isn't pure!

Is sea water mixture or pure substance?

It is a mixture. A pure substance contains only one type of substance or one species of any substance or element. Sea water is a mixture of different salts dissolved in water. Thus, it is not a pure substance. Another point is that the different components of sea water can be observed separately.
