First you will need a constant current source. Do NOT connect the voltmeter to the constant current source without the resistor to be measured already connected. Do NOT use a battery, it is a voltage source. Then follow these steps to measure a resistor:

  1. connect the voltmeter across the resistor to be measured
  2. connect the voltmeter-resistor combination across the constant current source
  3. read the voltmeter and record the voltage
  4. disconnect the voltmeter-resistor combination from the constant current source
  5. disconnect the voltmeter from the resistor
  6. calculate the resistance from the measured voltage and current from the source with Ohm's law in this form: R = V ÷ I
Its much easier to just use the ohms setting on a multimeter.

What are two familiar mistakes when using an ohmmeter and a voltmeter?

Voltmeter connect in parallel with the circuit setting on voltmeter highest range first then to lower range. Ohmmeter we need to use the ohmmeter meter setting connect across the resistor

What is the purpose of multimeter in a laboratory?

it can be used as a ammeter, voltmeter and also as a ohmmeter.

What kind of meter uses its own battery?

A. ohmmeter B. voltmeter C. ammeter D. wattmeter

What instrument measures voltage?

Resistance is measured with an ohmmeter. A link is provided to a brief article on the ohmmeter posted at Wikipedia.Note that it is unusual in this day and age to have a device that will measure ohms and nothing else. The ohmmeter is usually included among the functions of a multimeter, and usually a digital multimeter or DMM.

What step is unique to connecting an ohmmeter in the circuit?

check the circuit with a voltmeter to make sure the circuit is not powered

What is the advantage provided by multimeter?

A multimeter, also called a VOM, is an ohmmeter, ammeter, and voltmeter combined in one case. A function knob can be turned to select the type of measurement to be made, such as volts, amps, or ohms. The multimeter's test lead connections to the circuit will depend on whether you are using it as a voltmeter, an ammeter, or an ohmmeter.

What was the applications of galvanometer?

It can be used to form ammeter measuring the current intensity , Voltmeter measuring the potential difference , ohmmeter measuring the resistance.

Can a multimeter be used as substitute of ammeter and voltmeter why?

yes it can read both ac and dc voltage and current .AnswerThe whole point of a multimeter is that it can perform the function of an ammeter, a voltmeter, and an ohmmeter!

How do you convert galvanometer to ohmmeter?

Ohms are the unit of measurement for resistance, so an ohmmeter is a device that measures electrical resistance. A galvanometer measures the current flowing through the resistance, so the two are related. To convert a galvanometer into an ohmmeter, one needs an external battery.

Electric energy used in homes is measured using a. a voltmeter. c. an ammeter. b. an ohmmeter. d. a kilowatthour meter.?

D. A kilowatthour meter

What are the difference between a multimeter and a voltmeter?

A multimeter measures electrical properties such as AC or DC voltage, current, and resistance. Rather than have separate meters, a multimeter combines a voltmeter, an ammeter, and an ohmmeter. The two main kinds of a multimeter are analog and digital. A voltmeter measures the potential difference (voltage) between two points. the voltmeter only measures volts.

What device is used to measure the resistance of a resistor?

You can use a multi-meter to measure resistance. The specific portion of the meter for measuring resistance is called an ohmmeter.
