If you are sixteen or older and still in the sixth grade, you should have other concerns than owning a phone, however if you are the proper age for that grade, then you might try to convince your parents that you need it for safety reasons and that you will help to offset the cost by doing odd jobs, mowing lawns, delivering newspapers, etc.

if you take a bus to school say "what if i get on the wrong bus or something bad happens how will i contact you" or you can say "what if i get lost or im in trouble" or "what if im at home alone and something goes wrong". just a few suggestions
