Please see your dentist for a permanent solution; a temporary way to ease the pain is with simple pain medicine, or a numbing solution such as Orajel or Anbesol. Also, avoid very hot and cold foods/liquid, which can irritate the tooth.

I am a "Road Warrior" and at times when I cannot get to a dentist fast so I try everything. I have gone through the Tylenol, Asprin, Advil and found the BEST is Aleve (Naproxen Sodium) for those frugal folks.

I take three Aleve and about 10 to 15 minutes later the pain is tolerable and about 10 to 15 more minutes the pain is gone for the most part and I can continue on without trying anything and everything to make it go away. Funny enough, the Aleve helps me faster than Vicodin does...

Try putting some hard alcohol on the gum nearby it (vodka works quite nicely). If that is not enough, try taking an Advil and then make an appointment to visit your dentist and find out what the real source of the pain is so that you can properly treat it.

You can also use clove oil.

ibuprofen is the best for a toothache since it is an anti-inflammatory or clove oil diluted with another oil for more severe cases...Do not use clove oil by itself because it may leave chemical burns in your mouth and apply it to the exact area of pain with a q-tip.

If you have a small bean bag, put it in your microwave for 10 seconds. Gently put it on the cheek of which side of your mouth is aching. Then try drinking milk ( warmed up, cold milk might increase the pain) if it still aches a lot, go to the dentist, just to insure it won't injure your jaw.

Take some pain reliever (Ibuprofen/Tylenol) and go the dentist as soon as you can. You can try a numbing pain reliever until you get to the dentist.
