The easiest way is with a decorators icing bag with the icing tip(s) of your choice. The icing bag with a large flat tip is also an easy way to apply icing the sides of the cake, then just smooth it out. Decorating is also easier if the iced cake has been chilled so the icing has set.
Icing:
Option 1: Take a can of chocolate frosting and a can of plain white frosting and swirl them together, but not enough to make one solid color. Ice your cake with this. You can also use this strategy with all the colors of the rainbow, then swirl them to make tie-dye instead of marble.
Option 2: For this, any color frosting will work. Stick the frosting in a piping bag, (if you don't have a piping bag put the icing in a Ziplock bag and snip off the corner) and start piping on words, pictures, etc. For an easier way to do words, first pipe the words onto a piece of wax paper, put it in your freezer, and when it is thoroughly frozen, take it out and peel the letters off, being careful not to break them. Then, you can just put the letters on the cake. Also, you can use special piping tips to pipe grass, make borders and flowers, etc.
Embellishments:
It depends of what type of cake it is. I'm assuming it's like a sponge or butter cake.
You can put a dusting of icing sugar on top
You can use freshly whipped cream and spread that on top, then top with fruit or cocoa
People who decorate cakes are called cake decorators, cake artists, or pastry chefs.
Roll out the fondant, cover the cake with buttercream icing, and then just lay the fondant over the cake! It's as simple as that!
Yes. You can freeze dipped cake pops or naked cake balls (before they are dipped in chocolate). When you are ready to use/decorate, just thaw and eat or decorate. Although I recommend baking cake ahead of time, freezing a 13x9 pan cake in 4 portions and thawing portions as needed to make the cake pops fresh.
any cake that you wish to decorate, cup cake, regular cake, BD cake, weding cake, etc
Your batter would overflow.
Icing or frosting can be used to decorate a birthday cake.
Cake designers work to decorate cakes. They ice them, decorate them, fill them, stack them, prepare them, and put the finishing touches on a cake so that it is unique and different than just a plain cake would be.

The terms are interchangeable. "Sheath" cake seems to be unique to Texas, whereas the rest of the country tends to use "sheet" cake. "Sheet" cake refers to the pan the cake is baked in; no one seems to know how the term "sheath" originated.
