to save time and money the best way to find the problem is to have diagnostic test done this way here you want have any doubts
if you remove the module (not too hard). autozone and other places like that can test it for you for free. if its good then you know to replace the pick up coil. if its bad then you know to replace the module. you can aslo test the coil with a multimeter but i would guess that you dont have one and this would be a lot more work...
I like to pull a known good module from another truck, I have had gm modules pass the bench test that were actually bad, so you end up chasing your tail looking for other problems when there are none.

there are 4 things you need to do. First check and make sure that there is nothing restricting the airway to the throttle body. Second make sure that you are getting spark by pulling a plug wire and putting a good plug in the end of it the laying next to the engine and have someone turn the motor over. Third you need to check and make sure you are getting fuel into the motor. Fourth,once you have determine which of the 3 you aren't getting, you need to log on here and ask how to fix the narrowed down problem.
I would suspect that if it is getting fuel and not starting it would be that it is not getting any spark. If you find that it is not getting spark you could check: Ignition module Crank position sensor Engine control module Associated wiring and connectors

If you're talking about the module that's mounted on the distributer plate then Orielly's has a machine that will check it.
It's not getting fire. Check the module in the distributor first. Any auto parts store can test it and see if it is good or bad. 90% of the time this is the problem. If it is not the module, check the distributor, spark plugs, rotary button.
Could be: clogged cat converter bad ignition module bad coil I'd check to make sure cat converter isn't getting red hot when running for a few minutes, if so then clogged. Then I'd replace the ignition module, check, then coil.
You can always check to see if the plugs are sparking. Get an inline spark checker. Harbor freight 3 bucks. Hope this helps.
