The Marlin Model 795 rifle does not utilize clips, but has a 10-round detachable box magazine. The rifle itself has a magazine disconnect, and thus will not fire unless a magazine is inserted.

The Marlin 795 has a built-in feature that prevents the gun from firing without a magazine in place. Though, the modification to reverse this feature is very simple.
On the main Marlin Firearms website, there is a section labeled "Owners Manuals", from which you can download the manuals of Marlin products in .pdf form. Assembly and disassembly instructions should be included in these manuals. See related link.

The first step should be to read the owner's manual. You can request a paper copy from marlin, or go the the link below that says MARLIN, and it will take you to the owner's manual. Check that the rilfe is unloaded before performing ANY maintenance.
