It just unhooks from the pedal. But,you need to release it at the clutch arm end first.Assume you are replacing the cable? Before undoing anything, measure the length of thread sticking through the adjuster block, and reset as a basic set-up for the new cable. You are really supposed to trawl through this FAQ farm to see if the answer to your question is already there.Look back a few pages and you will find both astra and cavalier instructions. It's a simple enough job but you need the clutch pedal movement set to a value you will find in the text.

The clutch is hydraulic operated, there is no cable.

To replace a clutch cable fork on an Escort 1.85 diesel, first lift the clutch pedal to release the adjuster mechanism. Pull the cable through and hook the clutch cable fork.

First, the clutch cable is self adjusting, don't pull on the clutch cable housing to remove it from the dash panel, the self adjuster may be damaged. Remove the power distribution center and the transaxle cover. Pull back on the clutch cable housing and disconnect the cable. Pull the cable from the slot in the transaxle and disconnect the cable from the release lever. Push in the clutch cable and remove the cable from the pedal. Pull the cable from the dash using a slight twisting motion. Installation is the reverse proceedure. You may want to get a manual for all the 8x10 glossy photos and stuff.
