I was able to use the code search on a GE 4 function remote, I found the remote for $5 at Big Lots. I started the search with the TV on and let it run until it shut the TV off. Steps I took, press and hold the setup key - then release, press and release the TV button, press and release the power button, after TV turns off then press the #1 button to lock in the code. This remote does almost everything but the sleep button.
First Hold the set button down a few seconds then at the same time without letting go of the set button, hold down the device button ie TV. Then release the set button, then the device button. Then press the set button once to start the search. The device you are sinking the remote with should switch off. If it does press the device button to store the code. If not then restart your search until it does.
To program the remote with the codes, firstly, turn on the electronic gadget for which you are going to use this remote, by pressing the On and Off button. Then locate the Setup or the Code Search key on the remote control. These buttons may vary from remote to remote. Just hold on the setup or the code search key for 5 - 10 seconds or till the light on the remote

This unit is basically the same as the D770 universal remote. You can download instructions from RCA at RCA.COM. The Only difference is there is no light below the ON/OFF button, the individual buttons will light, and when you hold down the device key and the on/off together all lights will come on.
