go to the vets

and i think that illegle now

Only Veterinarians should do it. It is not necessary to dock a Dobermann's tail.

As you do not say where you live it is now illegal in many countries to do so including Wales, Scotland and England. Large fines could be involved and possible confiscation of dogs.

Tail docking, if it is to be done at all, should be done with analgesics/anesthesia by a trained professional, your Vet. This is not a task that should be attempted by someone untrained.

What age do you dock my puppyies tail?

If for some reason such as breed standard or whatever, you need to dock your pup's tail, then have the Veterinarian (only) do it between the ages of 3-5 days, no older than 5 days. Do NOT do it yourself, can only injure your dog or have an infection set in. A Vet can do it quite painlessly at 3-5 days of age. Check with our Veterinarian if you have any questions.

How old to cut a Dobermans tail?

The doberman puppy is docked and cropped at about eight weeks. Docking and cropping are two things. One is putting up it's ears with tape so they will grow upwards, but doberman puppies actually do have floppy ears. The second is cutting it's tail to that traditional size of a bear's tail size. It can be painful, but usually they are put under anesthetic. So, probably the best age is at nine/ten/eleven/twelve weeks old, though I never do that to dobermans, because I like them how they are.

Can you dock a tail if the dog is two weeks old?

Yes, 3 weeks is too old to dock a puppy's tail. Normally this procedure is done between the ages of 2-5 days old. You can have it done at 3 weeks but now it will be a major surgery where the puppy will have to be sedated and the tail docked and sutures put in. It will cost a lot more too.
