Hi I am in high school and considered to be a prep. I don't know whether you're a guy or girl but if youre a guy I can help. Dressing like a prep is more about brands than the style. You must wear polos, a lot. Make sure all your clothes are form fitting and not baggy nor skin tight. Pastel colors always help with the prep loo but color isn't as important as that little logo on the left pec. Shorts legs should not go below the knees, but about 3/4 the way down your thigh. Don't buy shorts with Fringe or those strings on the side of the legs at the bottom. Jeans should always be tight but not skinnies. Have to keep the package relaxed so don't let the jeans suffocate you. your jeans should never flare at the bottom. Buy dark washed, I can't stress that enough. Shoes should be casual but not athletic. There is a time and place for tennis shoes and that is exercising. I wear drivers a lot. Cole Haan makes my favorite drivers. Now on to brands. NEVER wear trendy teen brands. Real preps look down upon this. These brands are a&f, hollister, American eagle, and Aeropostale. You shouldn't even own clothes from these brands. I own items from all brands I'm about to list and would say they would successfully make you look like a prep. Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers (wear sparingly), Burberry (great polos and tees, Brit collection is pretty affordable), Lily Pulitzer, Ralph Lauren (essential), Lacoste (great), True Religion (only few jeans), 7 For All Mankind (most comfortable jeans I own), Rock & Republic (sparingly), French Connection, J. Crew, penguin, A/X. I know I left out many brands but there's a rough idea. Try to stay away from big Italian designers like d&g, gucci, prada, etc. People will just think you're gay if you wear these. But if you're into that, then go right ahead. Don't forget accessories. Every prep needs good Ray bans and other nice sunglasses. If you're too good for Ray ban go for some plastic Dior shades. You should also have a nice wallet. If money is an issue go for a plain tumi wallet. If it isn't, go for a plain black leather burberry one. I rock a fendi one with the F all over it but I do get weird glances when I pull it out so buy designers at your own discretion. I apologize for any spelling/grammatical errors as I did this on my iPhone. Just remember that dressing preppy is about being classic yet tasteful, not wearing a too small a&f tshirt putting everything on display. I should write a book on this. Oh last piece of advise: never, under any circumstances wear Ed hardy. You should go naked before you wear Ed hardy.
And I can help if you are a girl. First off get rid of any mini skirts. Yes, preppy girls do wear skirts but they should reach at least to your knees and be either classic plaid, navy, or khaki. You also need straight legged (not any other style) pants and shorts in navy, black, and khaki. Next you will need at least 5 pairs of thick tights for winter in colors like navy, cream, light rose (which is a very soft pink), black, and light sky (a very soft blue). For spring and autumn you should own at least 3 pairs of light pantyhose just a shade darker or lighter than your skin. For summer you need 5-7 pairs of white bobby socks. And for all seasons you need at least 5 pairs of knee high socks in the same colors listed for the thick tights. And absolutely NO LEGGINGS. Got it? And as for dresses keep two nice dresses for special occasions and at least 2 jumper type dresses in khaki and navy. For shirts you need at least 3 blouses in at least three of these colors: white, black, light rose, soft mint, light chocolate (a very light brown), and/or light sky. Also for shirts you'll need at least two polo shirts in at least two of the same colors for the blouses. For shoes you'll need a nice pair of tennis shoes for when you are athletic, a good pair of MaryJanes for everyday use, and a pair of Ballet flats or low/medium heels for formal occasions. Wear your hair down and in neat curls with a simple headband, in a simple, neat ponytail, in a braided bun (see How do you make a braided bun?) , or in 1 or 2 braids.
A preppy girl is usually someone who wears bows, likes vineyard vines, lily pulitzer, sperrys, stuff like that. They are classy, very nice (usually) and like chevron (A LOT)
just try talking to her,get to know her friends, hang out by her locker, ask her opinion on a song your listening to girls love attention:) especially preppy ones no offense to them but they do (\_/) ( '-' ) (")(")
To be punk you listen to punk music; wear crazy punk spiked-up, bold colored hair; and have a punk attitude. If you are a true prep you can never be even kinda punk, and if you are copying someone or you brag about being punk -EVER- you can never be punk. A change from a prep to a punk simply can not happen if you are really preppy, even if it is the very desire of your heart. ____________________________________________________________________________ Just be yourself. Dress how you want to dress, listen to what you want to listen to. Just be comfortable in your own skin and you won't feel the need to fit yourself into someone else's mold.
dress up during the week and on fridays they dress down
All the preppy kids need someone to pick on. But in all seriousness people are envious, I know you've most likely heard that all your life, but it is true. People love to call me emo because they think it hurts and they want to make me feel worse about the way I dress and music I love. Just stop letting it get to you and be proud of who you are!
be yourself guys will appreciate you for who you are... if you athletic dress athletic if preppy dress preppy if you goth dress goth you see the pattern?
I personally like the preppy look:)
Go to Hollister. Nuff said.
well no sagging , dress preppy you don't have to wear a suit.
Why would you change what you like all because of a bet? If you like being more girly or preppy go for it. If you like being emo or goth or whatever it is just dress how you like
me preppy !!
just look at his wife she was fashion then......
like you would dress a normal person, but if you're talking about what types of clothes you dress her in.. don't dress her in stuff that makes her look older, she's only young, don't let or make her grow up too fast.
shop at abercrombie and fitch, hollister, gap, and aeropostale and you'll find preppy clothes
A 16-year-old freshman who can't decide if she wants to dress preppy or goth
