What is varley loop test?

A varley loop test is a test used to find the earth fault location in an underground cable. It uses the Wheatstone bridge to help determine the distance from the test point to a fault in a telephone or telegraph line or cable.

What is ground fault protection?

GFI's (Ground Fault Interruptors) measure the difference between the hot conductor current and the neutral current. In a normal (no fault) circuit, every single milliamp of current flowing out of the hot should return through the neutral. In other words, the two currents should be equal. If there is a ground fault, at least some of the current flows from the hot. through the fault path, to ground. In this case the neutral current is less than the hot current by however much is flowing to ground. The GFI senses this difference and trips, opening the circuit. GFI's are designed to protect equipment from damage and trip at around 30 ma. of differential current. GFCI receptacles (Ground Fault Circuit Interruptors) like the ones you might find in your bathroom, and GFCI circuit breakers are designed to protect people, and trip much lower, around 5 ma.

Where would you find or use an earth leak circuit-breaker?

Proper name is GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter). It could be a breaker or receptacle. It's used for wet location circuits, like bathrooms, kitchens, hot tubs, outdoor

How do you improve technology?

You find a fault in a form of tech and fix that problem, or you find a more efficient way to do the same task. Its that simple.

What causes the meter fuse to blow in a 94 altima?

The short is under your battery tray. Find where your ground cable (The negative cable on your battery) screws to the engine block. Trace this ground cable to where it goes under your battery. It crosses over a wire with two connectors (this is your neutral safety switch). This is where your short will be, the crossing cables rub each other down to the wire. Tape both wires and insulate with rubber and you should be good to go.

What is the Acceptable current in ground cable?

A ground is not expected to carry any current. It's only there in case of a fault condition. If you have a current reading through a ground wire there is a fault that needs to be corrected. Many times a lazy electrician who couldn't find a broken neutral connected a receptacle or light fixture to ground to make it work. This is not a proper use of the grounding system, and it is dangerous and should be corrected if encountered. The grounding conductor should have at least the same ampacity of the largest phase conductor connected to the circuits it protects. That way it is capable of carrying the full current of the largest conductor in case of a fault.
