you have to replace the speed sensor located on the top of your tranny. its really simple. there is a single bolt holding it in as well as an electrical plug. simply unplug the wire, unscrew the bolt, pull the sensor straight out, then replace with the new . .
you can go to speedometer and out of speedometer
If the speedometer breaks, it effects the odometer. Check the speedometer cable it may be broken, even under the insulation.
There are a few reasons that could cause the speedometer to stop working on your Toyota Camry. If the mileage is still working then the speedometer cable end is damaged. If both the odometer and speedometer do not work then the cable is most likely broken.
If the odometer stopped working and the speedometer and cruise control still work, you have a bad odometer. It is part of the speedometer assembly so the whole thing will have to be replaced.
check the fuse, the speedometer does not run off of a fuse
If it's an analog speedometer, first check the condition of the speedometer cable. It may need to be replaced.
Start with the vehicle speed sensor the feeds the speedometer and odometer. Also look at the Brake/Speedometer problem associated with the Windstar recall for a leaking brake pressure switch
the speedometer on my 97 toyota camary stopped working and the check engine light came on why
If both the speedometer and odometer stopped working it is probably the speed sensor in the transmission gone bad. If only the speedometer quit you may have to replace the dash cluster with a reconditioned unit.
93 Nissan 300ZX P. Steering/odometerThe odometer stopped but the speedometer still works? I have to belive these are two different problems. There just shouldn't be any connection between the two. Treat it as such. Look at the power steering first. Is the belt intact and tight? Fluid full? Digital readout on odometer or mechanical? If mechanical, and the speedometer still works, then it is just the odometer that's bad. Direct connection speedometer to odometer, with no connection to the power steering as far as I know, and no reason for there to be. Even if digital, the power steering is simply a pump and some hoses with no need for anything electrical. There is no reason for the two to be connected.
If your odometer/speedometer stopped working, then you must replace the "vehicle speed sensor" located on top of the differential if your have a manual transmission.
The speedometer and odometer may stop working in a Nissan Pathfinder due to an electrical short. It may also need a new spark plug.
if the cluster still lights up but the speedo still inop possible cause is the speed sensor in the transmition
If the odometer has failed, does the speedometer still work? They are both driven by a cable which spins. If the speedometer is still working, than the odometer has jammed. Probably a dealer fix.
Is this a statement or a question
If your speedometer has stopped working just put the key in the off position and hold down the trip odometer button until you see some codes come on the odometer. That should reset your speedometer. I could not figure out which fuse was for the speedometer and some one told me about this and it worked right away.
Yes, the odometer could have stopped and been repaired years later, there's the possibility of manual rollback or the mileage could have just been recorded wrong.
Your speedometer may have failed, or the speedometer cable that connects to the transmission, or the plastic gear in the transmission may be broken.
My odometer stopped working about a month ago.
Hey Tony==Either manual or electric spedo if this happens the problem in in the speedo and needs to go to the speedo shop. GoodluckJoe
Our odometer/tripmeter also just stopped working at 220,000 miles. This is an integral part of the speedometer assembly, and cannot be repaired. The entire speedometer must be replaced.
Check the fuse in the fuse box; Also check to see if your speedometer cable snapped, this will cause the odometer to stop working as well If your speedometer is still working and just the odometer has stopped, the most likely problem is a little plastic drive gear in the instrument cluster. This is the most common problem with many makes of cars. If you are handy you can buy a replacement gear on Ebay for a few dollars and replace it yourself. Otherwise take the vehicle to an instrument repair shop. This problem usually occurs if you reset your odometer while travelling, it breaks a tooth off the little gear.
This happend on one of my cares. It was just a cable that needed to be changed under the hood. I am sure anyone at napa or autozone can help you out.
I had a 1993 Crown Vic that the odometer stopped working. I found out the government is very picky about messing around with it. You can replace it with a new one or a used one, but you must have a sticker put on the car, most of the time in the driver side door jam, that states that the odometer has been replaced, the mileage of the old odometer and the mileage of the new odometer. I found it was best to have a shop do this as they take care of the necessary red tape. (I know it is a little more costly, but in this case I felt the shop was the better way to go) It very well could show up on CarFax (some repair shops share data with Carfax - others don't). That is the type of thing that i would want to know if I was buying a car. If you do it yourself, there probably will not be a carfax report, unless you report it to them.
- I have a 2002 Caravan with the similar symptoms - speedometer stopped working but tripometer and odometer still work. The speedometer needle is wrapped all the way around past the top speed and resting on the bottom of the needle resting peg. I saw a posting about reseting the dashboard by removing the IOD fuse and replacing it but that did not help. I also tried pressing the trip button in and turning the ignition on as described in another post with no luck. Has anyone solved this or do I have a faulty speedometer requiring replacement? thanks Steve
