To change an exterior door handle on a 92 Mustang, you'll need to take the interior door panel off, the only way to reach it is behind the interior door panel. Make sure the window is rolled all the way up, because if it is down, it's impossible to get to. The only thing I'm not sure of, is I don't know if Ford riveted or bolted in the handles from the factory. Luckily when I changed mine, they were bolted in. After you remove the interior panel, you'll have to pull the post out of the clip that connects the door handle to the latch. Don't pull the post out of the clip at the latch, pull the post out of the clip up at the handle. Then, if it is bolted in, remove 2 nuts that hold the handle in place. If the handle is riveted in, you're going to have to attempt to drill out the rivets. After that is done, remove the handle, install the new one. Your new handles will be a bolt in. So, just tighten the nuts on the bolts, replace the post into the clip at the door handle, install the door panel and you're done!

∙ 18y agothe out side door handle is held on by two rivits they need to be drilled out and a 3/8 bolt and nut will replace the rivit of course the inter door panel will need to be removed to access the rivits did my right door last week

∙ 14y agofirst you have to take out the inner door panel there should be 6 tabs holding them in but don't worry if those break because you can get new ones at the auto store really cheap. but once you take the inner door panel off there is some plastic and foam stuff pull that away and you should be able to see the other end of the door handle take out the two screws that are holding them in and put your new one in make sure you put the pin in.

∙ 18y agoRemove interior door panel and arm rest.drill out rivet that hold handle on.Find another handle at the junk yard. I don't know of anyone that can fix little piece of plastic that breaks.
