water pump or thermostat housing crack
If the thermostat was not installed correctly, the housing can crack but it would leak engine coolant not oil.
well you look up from where the leak is coming from or the wear the water is dripping from and their you go you fond out wear the leak is.
If not tight enough to seal it will leak.

to continue my question above: new leak coming from between fastening nut and pipe where the line goes into the filter housing. Should there have been a gasket of some kind, or does this mean the inside of the receiving portion of the housing may be damaged? Yes the nut was fastened tightly enough I think. Perhaps my answer is to put in some liquid gasket maker on the inside of the nut?
Because there is a leak in the pipe of the water main.
