How do you fix a loose steering wheel on a 1991 jeep Cherokee?
There is a large nut in the center of the wheel under the boss cover, tighten it to the manufacturers specification.
If, however, the steering is wandering this could indicate a loose steering/suspension joint or problems in the rack or steering column which must be checked out and repaired before the vehicle is used further.
Pop the horn button off. Under that is the larger nut that holds the wheel in place. Afte that is removed, use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel.

It depends on if it is the column itself, or the steering wheel. The wheel is held on with a bolt, I doubt it loosened, unless it was recently worked on. The column mounts can be loose or damaged( due to an accident). They can be tightened or replaced. With the problem is inside the column, it is needs replacing, with new or 1 from a scrap yard.

hope your ready for this but it is a job you have to pull the whole steering wheel off take out the turn signal switched and behind that you ll see the ignition switch there is a small hex head screw that holds the ignition in it might be loose i had the same problem
It is right down to the left of the steering wheel. you have to pull it off and then there are the fuses.
If your referring to having loose steering, then you need to tighten the adjustment set screw on the steering box under the hood. Don't tighten this to much, or it will lock up the gears. Typically a loose box needs to be replaced, in very few cases will tightening the set screw actually help.

I had a similar problem, take the (2)7mm bolts out of the back of the steering wheel, and look at the contacts, you may need a little electrical tape, but cover the ones that the red wire connects to. then reassemble and try to see if that helps. it is a trial and error method and not the textbook way of solving it, but it worked for me. Loosen up the power steering pump and pull on pump till belt is tight.
You may find that the turn signal switch in the steering wheel is bad.
