How to reset your Honda SRS light works on most models of Hondas
Directions for erasing memory on SRS light, but this procedure only works if all problems causing the indicator to be "on" have been corrected.
1st Obtain an 'SCS Service Connector'. You can use a speaker harness for an older Honda, which you can buy at any stereo shop such as Radio Shack, Circuit City or Best Buy. Cut the wires and loop them together. Or use a paperclip but that will make it a little more difficult, because you have to connect-and-disconnect it a few times quickly. 2nd you need to find the MES (Memory Erase Signal) this is located in or by the fuse box it is a yellow connection, remove it from the fuse box and jumper as described below. If there are 2 yellow connectors at the fuse box under the drivers side dash, look for the one with only 2 wires. That will be the one.
MES Plug is usually in or by the Fuse box.
It is a yellow connector with two wires in it that is plugged into the fuse box, unplug it and pull it down. Once you have done that you can begin the process of erasing the memory. NOTE: This will only reset your SRS System if what caused it to trigger has been fixed, Ex: turning the ignition on with any SRS Plugs disconnected, such as pulling your seat out.
1st step in erasing the memory is to turn the ignition off and connect the SCS Service connector to the MES Plug,
2nd Turn Ignition on. SRS indicator light will come on for about 6 seconds then go off.
3rd Disconnect SCS service connector for MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS indicator light goes off. SRS indicator light will come on again.
4th Reconnect SCS service connector the MES connector within 4 seconds after SRS light comes on. SRS indicator light will go off.
5th Disconnect SCS service connector from MES connector within 4 seconds. SRS indicator light will indicate that memory is erased by blinking 2 times.
6th Turn ignition off, and wait 10 seconds. Start vehicle like normal and light should come on and go out like normal. You have reset your SRS light, congrats.
If it does not work the first time try it again, the timing has to be perfect. My first time it took me 3 attempts before it worked, but it did work.
If this does not work and the light stays on then something is still wrong in the system.
Maybe the wire connection under the drivers seat or a fuse or bad ground or a bad clock spring (clock spring is under the driver side air bag).
Again, this procedure works only if all problems have been corrected. Good Luck!
I've seen people asking what it looks like, this is the picture of what it looks like on my 2001 Honda Accord V6, the small plug was the one for me. It did turn the SRS light off. Thank you
Can you tell me exactly what speaker harness you used for your 2001 Honda accord and exactly where I can get it? My 2001 accord shows the same small yellow plug for the MES, but I cannot find the right size speaker harness to connect to it. What store did you get it at, model number and year range of Honda's if you would?
This reset method works perfecty as described! I don't know if mine will come back on but it went out after I did this. Basicly just do the steps quickly and you will get it. Thanks to the posters of this trick!
Just use the paperclip or stiff wire, simple as can be. Don't sweat looking for a harness if you don't have one already.
thanks for your instruction, i followed it and it clear my SRS light for accord 98. It the small yellow connector with two green wires. I used a paper clip .
THE CONNECTION IS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE FUSE BOX ON THE 2000 V6 ACCORD. THE ONLY DIFFICULT PART WAS GETTING UNDER THE WHEEL TO UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL THE CONNECTOR. THE PAPER CLIP WORKS FINE. THANKS FOR THE TIP.
Appreciation for theHi guysThis answer was extremely helpful and I was able to reset the SRS memory in my 2000 Honda Accord in a minute. It was a piece of cake. For Honda Accord 2000 model, the MES plug is under the steering column. It's a small yellow plug with only two thin green wires in it. For this specific model (2000 Honda accord...) there's another plug right next to it with two green wires. Choose the small plug yellow plug out of these two. and after that.. it's really simple and can be done in half minute.
Thanks much for the answer again.
Great advice and very thankful for the answer, saved a $100 from going to the dealership in NYCI read the initial comment as well as the other people that responded. I have a 2000 Accord LX 4 door. I was also able to reset the SRS memory after I had both front seats replaced with aftermarket racing seats. For my Honda 2000 Accord Lx it was located under the steering column towards the back of the fuse box. There were two yellow plugs with two green wires connecting from them both. I choose the smaller one (yellow plug connecting to a grey socket), NOT the larger one with the yellow plug connecting to the yellow socket(just like the poster above mentioned). I connected two wires to jump them and followed the directions above. The key is to get the timing sequence down pack, then its a snap. On the third try I got it, once you see the SRS blink twice you're home free. Dec. 2006Thanks again for the answer!!!
Appreciate the !Hi guysThanks for the Tip! This answer was extremely helpful and it worked just like that on my 2000 Honda Accord in a minute. However, Light came back on after around 10 to 12 miles run. I reset it again, but the same thing. Light came back again after 10 to 12 miles.Any thoughts or any further suggestions?
For an easy way to reset the srs light for free check out www.vehix411.com . They have free video instructions on resetting the light without taking the car to a dealer. One way to keep the SRS light off: In my case I reset the SRS light but it came back on. Found on the web that it could be an old battery. My battery indicated "Blue" on the battery indicator = good but.....Took it to a car shop and they tested it under a load and found it to be bad. Noticed my map lights and headlights flickered a little when my car (Honda CRV) was idling = bad battery or alternator. Replaced the battery since it was over five years old and reset the SRS light using the jumper wire method seen on the web and the light has not come on since. The irregular voltage caused the SRS light to come on.This worked great on my 2003 Honda Pilot. Two things that may help others with this. First is on my 2003 pilot, the MES connector is located under the dash on the driver's left side in the fuse box. It is a yellow connector in the fuse box. Second, the MES connector is plugged into an emty socket just to hold it in place, not connected to any wires. A paperclip works fine, just stick it into the yellow plug you just pulled out. By the way, it was an old battery that caused the SRS light to come on in the first place so resetting fixed the problem. Thanks
how do i read srs light blink on honda accord 2005?
WHAT DOES "SRS" LIGHT ON 2001 HONDA ACCORD DASHBOARD MEAN AND HOW CAN YOU PUT IT OFF
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "Air Bags".
Have the SRS problem repaired by a professional and he will reset the light. This is not a DIY repair. Working on the air bags can be dangerous. Take it to a pro.
Answermost likely a bad srs module
The SRS lights says on when then is a problem with your air bag system. You need to take your Honda Accord into a service center to get it serviced.
SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) in other words air bags.
By having a professional repair the problem with the SRS (air bags) that has triggered the light. Not a DIY repair.

You have a problem with the SRS or the light would not be on. Have it repaired by a professional and they will reset the light.
The following Website has instructions with a photo of how to reset the SRS light. The procedure works on Hondas in general http://www.hondapitstop.com/accord/technotes1/SRS/srs.html Jack Quinn
If the SRS light comes on then you have a problem with the air bag system. If you do not have a professional repair the system the light will just come back on.
