make sure the trunk weather stripping is in perfect condition. water runs down the trunk and right into the tail light printed circuit/bulb sensor. if you open the trunk and water runs out that's a good indicator that weather stripping needs some attention. depending on how long water has been involved, freezing, road salt and chemicals. the circuit boards may need to be replaced

You could check the fuse box under the hood. More than likely the fuse is blown because all of those items should be on the same circuit. I own a 2000 Honda Accord and received a safety recall from Honda concerning the instrument lights for the 2000 & 2001 Accord LX coupe.

As confirmation, the air bag warning indicator flashes 4 times per second for 3 seconds followed by another flash sequence of 4 times per second for 3 seconds. After confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete. Are you sure they are all in order? There are 4 tail light bulbs on an S40, if one of them is out the warning light will come on even though it appears that no bulbs are out. Have a closer look!

Exercise equipment weights usually don't have a safety warning label on them. Most the time the work out equipment its self bares these safety instructions.

Most likely it is. I have had several neutral safety switch issues before, and it sounds like what happened to me. If you put it in reverse do the reverse lights light up? If not that is also a safety switch problem.
